SBIR & the Office of Naval Research Rapid Innovation Fund (9/24/20)
The Rapid Innovation Fund provides a collaborative vehicle for small businesses to provide the department with innovative technologies that can be rapidly inserted into acquisition programs that meet specific defense needs. RIF is administered by the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD(R&E)) Small Business and Technology Partnerships (SBTP). While it is not stipulated that funds must support SBIR recipients, RIF is a great program to complement SBIR. Unfortunately, RIF was not funded in FY 20, however, there are many advocates pushing for funding in subsequent years.
